Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) Testing
Local exhaust ventilation (LEV) systems protect workers from breathing in the dust, fumes and other airborne contaminants that cause serious health problems and sickness absence every year.
It’s essential that LEV systems are regularly inspected and tested to ensure that they:
- Remain in safe, efficient working order
- Comply with all relevant Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) 2002 and Health and Safety at Work Act (HSWA) 1974 requirements
Most LEV systems must be thoroughly tested every 14 months, although some require more frequent inspection. It’s also an employer’s duty to maintain accurate LEV testing and repair records for at least five years.
